Haircut styles (what they mean)

  • French Crop / Textured Crop: shorter top pushed forward with texture.

  • Buzz Cut: very short all over, clean and low maintenance.

  • Crew Cut: short top, slightly longer than buzz, tidy shape.

  • Quiff / Pompadour: longer top styled up/back with volume.

  • Slick Back: medium to longer top combed back.

  • Fade Haircut: fade-focused cut; top length can vary.

Fade types (quick definitions)

  • Low Fade: fade starts low near the ears.

  • Mid Fade: balanced fade starting around the temple.

  • High Fade: aggressive fade starting higher on the head.

  • Skin Fade: fades down to bare skin at the bottom.

  • No Fade (Scissor Cut): classic taper, no clipper fade.

Length cheat sheet

  • 0.5 guard: very tight

  • 1 guard: short

  • 2 guard: still short, less scalp showing

  • Scissor taper: cleaner shape without a “fade look”

  • Top length (1–4+ inches): determines how much you can style

Tell your barber these two extra things

  • How you style it: messy texture, brushed forward, combed back, matte vs shine.

  • Your hair type: straight, wavy, thick, thinning, cowlicks, curls.

If you hate maintenance

Pick: Crew Cut or Buzz Cut + Low/Mid Fade + shorter top.

If your hair grows weird at the crown

Avoid super high fades. Use Low Fade or Scissor taper.

Does this tool replace a barber consultation?

No. It gives a clear baseline script. Your barber will adjust for head shape, hairline, and hair density.

What if I don’t know what guard to pick?

Start with 1 guard or 2 guard. If you want it tighter, go lower next time.

Skin fade or not?

Skin fades look sharp but show growth faster. Low/Mid fades stay cleaner longer.

Can I use this for a beard trim too?

Yes. Select a beard option and the instructions include blending guidance.
